5 STEVIES® FOR CSR PROGRAM OF THE YEAR - CONGRATULATIONS SEALAND – A MAERSK COMPANY

Miramar, Florida – Sealand – A Maersk Company was named winner of one GOLD, one SILVER, and 3 BRONZE Stevie® awards in the Corporate Social Responsibility Program of the Year category in the 19th Annual International Business Awards®.

Sealand and long-time partner Sor Dominga Bocca in Ecuador won GOLD for their work with 22 at-risk girls. This program that empowers the girls with the professional and personal skills needed to become entrepreneurs and “independent women of the future” was recognized by the judges as a “wonderful initiative” that would not only impact the girls but empower them to be agents for change on a wider scale.” The judges noted further, “Kudos to Sealand and Sor Dominga Bocca for delivering such an important and impactful project. It is especially impressive to understand the scope of work and activities, how these were adapted in the context of COVID-19, and how they feed into the long-term aims of the program”.

In Costa Rica, company community leaders facilitated a collaboration between non-profit ASVO acting in environment and Lifting Hands Foundation, acting in education, to raise environmental awareness and education among youth served by Lifting Hands. Sealand employees grew local leadership capacity to include representation from multiple parent company brands and intensified volunteering. This 3-way collaboration won SILVER with judges recognizing “excellence in each phase of the program -- situational analysis, research and planning, execution and evaluation; a really fantastic and comprehensive program that supports the idea of the value of education whilst combining it with environmental awareness.”

The judges considered Sealand and EDUCA Mexico’s “dedication to creating parity for all children in education regardless of income levels extremely worthy of being nominated”, further noting, “the educational programs are well chosen and have been made “pandemic proof”. Education is key in the transformation and progress of societies and their people. The partnership made use of challenging pandemic times to design large-scale virtual initiatives in mathematics and entrepreneurship, filling some gaps in education during a time when it was most needed. This partnership was awarded BRONZE with the judges’ encouragement to “Keep going! Great job!”

The long-term partnership between Sealand and Páportí Fundación won BRONZE for

“An excellent programme that has been holistically planned to ensure that at-risk youth are cared for from a 360-degree perspective. The integration of employees into the programme via a choice of volunteering or contributing in other ways is an important element - taking the programme from pure Corporate Social Investment to an internal CSI programme.” Employee leaders successfully grew and structured a multi-brand leader team to offer non-traditional large-scale volunteering programs that unleash creativity for both youth and volunteers. The team makes a diverse range of resources available to the children and teens (funds, volunteer time, item donations, technology).

Sealand and Enseña Perú were awarded BRONZE for their work with the children of

Fernando Belaúnde Terry Elementary School in Callao, Peru. Enseña Perú’s proactive approach to system-wide change and excellence in education despite a pandemic was recognized, along with a volunteer program where employees from multiple brands shared their skills by delivering energetic modules from virtual theatre classes for students through to financial literacy for parents suffering financial hardship exacerbated by the pandemic.

The judges commented, “The future-proofing model that is employed for this particular corporate social investment (CSI) project by Sealand, bears not only sustainability in mind, but also impact measurement. The inclusion of employees within the programme model also lends itself to cultural growth within the organisation that links to CSI projects. This is a very strong, considered, and measurable program with defined objectives and goals and a clear pathway towards reaching them. It also demonstrated agility when required (during the pandemic) and has the flexibility to be able to respond to immediate needs. Outstanding initiatives and commitment; great contribution to society. Well executed campaign and great metrics.”

On the overall program, the judges noted, “It is illuminating to see how the project fits into Sealand's wider community initiatives across different locations and helping move the company's CSR efforts from the transactional to the translational and transformative. This is evidently a project making a real difference to real people in their daily lives and creating new possibilities and a new future for them, while also being emblematic of more such programs and projects to be enabled by Sealand. Bravo!”

Sealand’s community program management partner, The Collaboration Vector, is delighted to have the company’s efforts recognized, and to celebrate its people in the office and in the community. “Congratulations to 115 employees who have led local partnerships since program start in 2015, to the majority of the company’s workforce that remain committed to long-term community partnerships, to many employees who newly joined and contributed over the past year, and to the company’s dynamic and innovative non-profit partners”.

Stevie Award winners were determined by the average scores of more than 300 executives worldwide who participated in the judging process in June and July. “We’re thrilled that we’re able to return to celebrating Stevie winners in person this year,” said Stevie Awards president Maggie Miller. “This year’s class of honorees are as innovative, adventuresome, persistent, and successful as we’ve ever had.”
